The greatly anticipated move of the year is finally upon us! Mutt and Joe is moving from its decade and a half home at 543 Benfield Rd to its new home and new look over at The Station!

Since Thursday November 6th, our new address has been 44 W Earleigh Heights Rd right next to the B & A trail ranger station. Other landmarks include the Yoga Barn and Taphouse just down the block.

With our move, we got a new name and look! We will be going by Chesapeake Pet Grooming and will be operating out of a trailer. Since the trailer is significantly smaller than our previous location, we will permanently be operating as curbside check in. We know that you are just as excited for the holidays as we are, so now is a great opportunity to book your next appointment. As many of you have probably been hearing, there are some very big changes coming to our future.

Due to increased overhead costs, I have decided to downsize from a staff of seven to just myself and one other groomer. With this decision comes a very large change of moving locations and downsizing from the brick and mortar location we have loved over the last 15 years, to a trailer that will be parked on W Earleigh Heights, next to the Yoga Barn.

All of us groomers are going to continue grooming and bathing, but since we won't be able to fit everyone in the trailer, Kaitlyn and Rae will be moving on and doing mobile grooming under their own business names! I could not be more excited for them on their new adventure as entrepreneurs. I know many of you love them as much as I do, and as such, I will make sure that the website is updated with their contact information as soon as they have it finalized. If anyone ever has any questions as to who their regular groomer is, I will be more than happy to let you know.

Finally, with all of these current changes, as well as our past ones of closing our cafe, I have decided that Mutt and Joe will be doing business as Chesapeake Pet Grooming once we move over into the trailer.

In 2010, Andy Smull's dream of combining her two passions—dogs and coffee—came true in the form of Mutt & Joe. It quickly became a Severna Park favorite dog bathing/grooming spot, offering a gathering space for locals to grab a bite and a cup of joe while dog watching. Andy and her tight-knit staff built a community and knew her customers and their dogs by name. She was there more than not and never wanted it any other way. The years flew by in a blur of smiles and dog hair-covered hugs, and while Andy took a step back in the last couple years due to her health—eventually handing the reins over to current owner Elissa—the business was her baby. As was every pup that stepped paws through the door.

Mutt & Joe is heartbroken to share the news of Andy's passing last week. She was a force... smart, generous, strong, and a bright light that will be sorely missed. We know so many of you have and hold your own memories with Andy and if you feel so inclined, you are welcome to share them in this space. Please keep her husband Michael, friend Kimberly, her pups, and all those she touched throughout the years in your heart at this time. Andy’s boisterous laugh, boundless energy and generous spirit defined her. She was a fiercely loyal and dedicated friend, an exceptional baker, a talented photographer, a first mate to Michael on their boating adventures, and the ultimate “Dog Mama.” A celebration of life will take place later this summer on Harness Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maryland SPCA (www.mdspca.org)
